Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday after several weeks of beta testing, bringing a more context-aware Siri AI, a new Suggestions feature in Messages, and long-awaited Apple Pencil compatibility for the foldable iPhone Duo. The update is free for eligible devices and arrives alongside a batch of smaller app refinements and bug fixes.
Siri AI gains memory and broader access
On iPhone 15 Pro and later, Siri AI can now recall earlier conversations, letting users ask it to follow up on something it previously suggested. Apple says the assistant can also draw on photo attachments in Messages, Calendar event attendees, and voicemails to sharpen its answers, along with better use of Safari browsing history and the Reading List. Additional refinements include granular text selection so users can copy only part of a Siri response, and a new Excluded Apps list that lets people limit which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can read from.
Apple is also widening Siri AI's language support beyond English to include French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Arabic is not among the new languages, so the feature remains English-first for users in the Middle East. Siri AI stays in beta, requires iOS 27 or later on a compatible device, and is still unavailable in the European Union, where Apple says it continues working with regulators "in an attempt to find a path forward."
Messages, Photos, and other apps get smaller updates
A new Suggestions feature in Messages uses conversation context to propose actions, such as adding a dinner invite directly to Calendar. In Photos, Shared Albums now support caption and comment editing to cut down on duplicate posts, and the app can warn participants before an album is set to expire so they can save favorite images in time.
Images created with Apple's Image Playground tool will now carry an invisible Synth ID watermark, a system Google already supports through a dedicated detector it launched this month for AI-generated content from OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao, among others. Other changes include a redesigned black-and-white logo for Apple Music, Simple Profiles for shared households in Apple TV, support for third-party sign-language interpreters on FaceTime, separate New Episodes and Continue Playing sections in Podcasts, and an updated Friends tab in the Games app.
Apple Pencil arrives on the Duo, with limits
As previously announced, iOS 27.2 brings Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable phone, fulfilling a commitment the company made to ship the feature by year's end, according to 9to5Mac. Only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) works with the Duo's foldable display, which has drawn scrutiny over its durability. The update also resolves various bugs across Health, Shortcuts, and app tracking.
iOS 27.2 is available now for iPhone 11 and later, as well as iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer, through Settings > General > Software Update. Pricing and rollout timing for the Duo in Gulf markets, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, had not been confirmed at the time of writing, so shoppers should check their local Apple storefront for details.
